Have you ever sensed a spiritual battle raging around you, even in moments that seem ordinary? In Chapter 2 of Daniel B. Lancaster\u2019s \u201cSatan: The Liar, Narcissist, and Troubling Christian Relationships,\u201d we see how the enemy\u2019s strategy is not just to disrupt, but to diminish and destroy. Yet, God has already equipped us to live in victory, not fear.<\/p>\n
Scripture describes Satan as a prowling lion, always searching for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). But the devil rarely attacks head-on. Instead, he uses a calculated, three-step plan: deceive, diminish, and discard.<\/p>\n
1. He Deceives:<\/strong><\/p>\n Satan\u2019s primary weapon is deception. He twists truth and lures us into believing things that simply aren\u2019t real\u2014about God, others, and ourselves. Just as he did with Adam and Eve, he exploits our desires and presents counterfeits as real solutions. Have you ever believed a lie about your worth, your future, or God\u2019s love? That is the enemy\u2019s deception at work.<\/p>\n 2. He Diminishes:<\/strong><\/p>\n After the deception comes the whisper of discouragement. The enemy wants to erode your confidence and self-worth. He points to your failures and flaws, trying to convince you that you are unlovable or unforgivable. This gradual, relentless assault can leave even faithful believers feeling small, insignificant, or isolated. But remember\u2014what the enemy sees in you is actually God\u2019s glorious work!<\/p>\n 3. He Discards:<\/strong><\/p>\n Finally, the devil\u2019s goal is destruction. Like a thief, he comes \u201conly to steal and kill and destroy\u201d (John 10:10). For some, this shows up in broken relationships, addiction, or a deep sense of hopelessness. He wants you to believe there is no way out. Yet, the story doesn\u2019t end there\u2014Jesus came to give abundant life and to rescue us from the enemy\u2019s grasp.<\/p>\n Toxic relationships and spiritual attacks share similar warning signs: lies, manipulation, isolation, and a gradual loss of hope. The enemy often works through people who drain your joy and diminish your identity. If you find yourself feeling smaller, more anxious, or cut off from community, pay attention\u2014these may be signs of spiritual warfare.<\/p>\n You are not helpless.
