The phrase can sound intimidating. A war room. Like you need a strategy, a whiteboard, and a spare bedroom you do not have.
Let me take the pressure off. A war room is not a special place. It is a decision. It is the decision to stop fighting your battles in your own strength and start fighting them on your knees.
For one person it is a closet with a folding chair. For another it is the front seat of the car in the church parking lot, ten minutes before going in. For a young mom it might be the shower, because that is the only door that locks. The room matters less than the meeting. What makes it a war room is that you show up to talk to God about the thing that is trying to take you down.
We fight the wrong way so often. We worry about a problem, we complain about it, we lie awake rehearsing it. All of that is fighting, and none of it is winning. Paul names the real battlefield:
“For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the flesh. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4, BSB)
The fear that will not let you sleep is building a stronghold. The old shame that flares up every time you fail is building a stronghold. You cannot out-worry a stronghold. You cannot out-argue it in your own head at two in the morning. Strongholds come down one way, and that way is prayer.
So the war room asks something surprising of you. Not more strength. Less. It asks you to bring the battle to God before you bring it to anyone else, and to keep bringing it until something shifts.
Start small. Name one fight. Take it to God out loud, in whatever room works for you. You do not have to win it today. You just have to stop fighting it alone. The victory was never going to come from carrying more. It comes from you kneeling with the One who already won.
